Talk On Harassment Brings Together Magistrates, Civil Servers And The Community At The Forum In The District Of Gurupi

Around seventy people, including judges, civil servers and the community, took part in the first round of conversation: “How to identify and overcome harassment in the workplace?”, held on Tuesday afternoon (May 6th) at the District Court of Gurupi. The event is part of the IV Week to Combat Harassment and Discrimination in the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins, which opened last Monday (May 5th).

During the debate, which was attended by Justice Angela Haonat, president of the Commission for Preventing and Combating Moral Harassment, Sexual Harassment and Discrimination in the 2nd Level, topics such as: the concept of moral harassment; the differences between downward harassment (from superiors to subordinates) and upward harassment (from subordinates to superiors), as well as reflecting on the psychological and professional impacts suffered by victims of these practices. One of the points highlighted was the illness caused by harassment, which can result in prolonged sick leave and damage to mental health and professional performance.

Also discussed was the role of the Disciplinary Administrative Process (PAD) and Inquiry Committee of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO) in receiving and forwarding complaints, reinforcing the importance of qualified listening channels and institutional action.

Judge Edilene Pereira de Amorim, director of the Forum of the district of Gurupi, evaluated the event positively. “It was excellent, with a large number of people taking part, showing how important it is that the Court is concerned about these situations that occur in the workplace and which, incidentally, is where we spend most of our time. It has to be a strict, welcoming environment, so that we can not only give our best, but also the certainty that we are not just machines - we are human,” she said.

The magistrate also highlighted the positive impact of the debate. “Here we are making a living, but it doesn't come at the cost of blood, sweat and tears. We all need to be well, because our best only comes when our hearts are well.”

Awareness

The aim of the meeting was to raise awareness of institutional practices to prevent and combat bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination in work relations.
