
Alluding to the date of the signing of the Golden Law, celebrated on May 13th, the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins, through the Permanent Commission for Memory Management (CGM) and the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat), is holding the opening of the Silenced Voices exhibition next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO): Struggle of Paula for freedom. The exhibition proposes an immersion in the history of slavery in the state of Tocantins, through the story of Paula, a black enslaved woman who won her freedom in 1858.
The exhibition transcribes a historical document produced during Colonial Brazil, in the territory where the state of Tocantins is located today. The initiative reaffirms the institutional commitment to the duty of memory and the preservation of historical documents from the collection of the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins. The event is aimed at judges, civil servers and the public interested in history, law, justice and memory.
The programming also includes the presentation of the first edition of the Gazette of Justice and the first case judged by the TJTO.
After the opening, the lecture on The Slaughter of Santa Maria of Taguatinga of 1851: slavery, plantocracy and registration algorithms from a case in a 'land of masters of few slaves' will be given by Professor Ricardo Spíndola, professor of Law at the Federal University of the state of Tocantins (UFT), city of Arraias. With a PhD in Law from the University of the state of São Paulo (USP), a master's degree from the University of the city of Brasília (UnB) and a bachelor's degree from the Federal University of the state of Goiás (UFG), Spíndola was also a post-doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the History and Theory of Law (Germany). His work stands out for its investigation of the intersections among the History of Law, Cultural Techniques, the Constitution and Religion
Portal of memory
On the occasion, the Portal of Memory of the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins will also be presented. Adapted to the regulations of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), through the National Program for Document Management and Memory of the Judiciary (Proname), the SITE gathers information on the memory management activities of the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins since its creation, as well as historical records from past centuries.
