About the Maria nas Comunidades (mary in the communitties project)
Created in March of 2023, “Maria nas Comunidades” (Maria in the Communities) is an initiative of the Ombudsman for Women of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO), under the leadership of Justice Ângela Prudente. The project works to raise awareness and strengthen the support network for women in situations of violence.
The initiative is developed in partnership with various institutions, such as the State Coordination of Women in Situations of Domestic and Family Violence (Cevid), the Public Defender's Office, the State Prosecution, the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-TO) and the Brazilian Bar Association - Tocantins Section (BAR-TO), among others.
The central aim of the project is to provide information, guidance and support to women, reinforcing the importance of reporting and access to the protection channels. In addition to raise awareness in the community about the rights of women, “Maria nas Comunidades” (Mary in the Communities) seeks to encourage society to engage in preventing and combating domestic violence.
