Esmat holds, in november, Webinar on Criminal Alternatives: a Political-Criminal Approach in the Context of Non Incarceration

Aiming to discuss and analyze Brazil's punitive and incarcerating criminal policy, as well as the challenges of implementing mechanisms and strategies to confront the mass incarceration underway in the country, the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT), in partnership with the State Secretariat of Citizenship and Justice (SECIJU), will hold on November 5th, from 1pm to 6pm, the Penal Alternatives Webinar: a Political-Criminal Approach in the Context of Non-Incarceration.

One thousand vacancies are being offered in the Distance Learning modality. The event is destined to magistrates, servers of the Justice System, the Penal System, the Support Network and other professionals interested in the theme and civil society. Among the objectives of the Webinar are: Discuss the political-criminal mechanisms to strengthen criminal alternatives; discuss the current scenario and strategies to break the logic of punitivism and incarceration of criminal policy; discuss the importance of qualifying the gateway; and reduce the prison mass, investing in custody hearing as an important strategy to combat imprisonment.

About the lecturers:

Océlio Nobre da Silva – Law Judge at the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins. He was a professor at College of Higher Education of the city of Colinas of Tocantins (FIESC), 2005-2006. Professor at the President Antônio Carlos University Center of the State of Tocantins (ITPAC), 2006-2006. He is currently a professor at the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT). Graduated in Law, 1998, from the University of the State of Tocantins Foundation. Specialist in Rule of Law and Fighting Corruption, 2017. Master in Legal Sciences, 2015, by the University of Lisbon. Complementary Training: Trainers Training Course, 2016-2017, by the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins; Tutors Training Course in the Context of Magistracy, 2017, by the National School of Training and Improvement of Magistrates; Course on Criminal Constitutional Law, 2018, by the Lisbon School of Law.

Juliana Porto Vieira – Master in Criminal Sciences, from the University of Coimbra, UC, Portugal. Specialist in Social/Public Prison Systems Management and in Criminology and Social/Public Security, by IBRA Educational Group, IBRA, Brazil. Specialist in Legal-Criminal Sciences, by the University of Coimbra, UC, Portugal. Training of Content Teachers for Virtual Courses and Servers of Criminal Enforcement, by the National School of Public Administration (ENAP), Brazil. Instructor and teacher of the Public Policies in the Prison System Course, National School of Penal Services (ESPEN), Brazil. Reviewer of the Legal Magazine of the Office of the General Attorney of the Federal District.

Rafael Barreto Souza – Deputy Coordinator of Axis 1 of the Making Justice Program, developed by the National Council of Justice (CNJ) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programm (UNDP), in which he supervises the project to strengthen custody hearings developed with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Licensed Law Professor at the Higher Education Institute of Brasília (IESB). Researcher at the Laboratory of Management of Penal Policies of the University of Brasilia (LabGEPEN-UnB). He was an expert and coordinator of the National Mechanism for the Prevention and Combat of Torture. He previously worked at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, United Nations bodies and in civil society organizations. He holds a Master's degree in Development Studies from the Institute for Advanced International and Development Studies (IHEID), Switzerland.

He also holds a Master's degree in Law from the Federal University of the State of Ceará (UFC). He has been working for more than 10 years with themes related to Criminal and Juvenile Justice, Confronting Torture and Investigation Protocols.
