Justices celebrate the results of tjto's socio-environmental action when they launch the selective collection project in the city of Paraíso

The success of the initiatives implemented by the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO) in the socio-environmental area was one of the topics addressed at the launch of the Solidary Selective Collection Project in the city of Paraíso of Tocantins, last Thursday (June 30th). The president of TJTO, Justice João Rigo Guimarães, and Justice Ângela Prudente, in a statement, made a point of thanking everyone who makes up the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins for their engagement in the actions focused on the segment. “The concern with the environment is very important. The awareness and responsibility of everyone engaged with the purpose is fundamental. The transformation of waste into resources improves the environment and everyone’s living conditions”, said the president of TJTO.

Justice Ângela Prudente, president of the Permanent Committee of the Sustainable Logistic Plan of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins (PLS/PJTO), mentioned that the “return is gratifying”. “Everyone’s adhesion is great. It shows the responsibility and commitment to future generations,” he said.

Ângela Prudente and João Rigo Guimarães talked about the achievement of TJTO, the number 1 in the country – among all courts – in quantity of socio-environmental empowerment actions by 2021, according to the 6th Sustainability Report of the Judiciary, released this week by the National Justice Council (CNJ). “We are a court considered a small-sized one. And this award has an even greater value. It is the investment in knowledge giving results”, declared the magistrate.

An increased participation

Ângela Prudente reinforced the need for an even greater participation from everyone. “For us to be even more successful, the participation of everyone who is part of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins is necessary. The correct disposal of waste provides an opportunity for a better quality of life in our work environment and in our homes. And it is a social responsibility, when we make it possible for citizens, such as the collectors, to gain from it”, she added.

Environmental specialist, Justice Ângela Issa Haonat said after the ceremony that actions like this contribute to a more balanced and sustainable environment. “More than its purpose, the court, by developing projects like this, brings the judiciary closer to the community, focusing on sensitive agendas within the scope of social issues”, she said.

For the magistrate, in the current moment, opportunities like this reduce the difficulties that would be found, for example, in the bureaucratic processing of laws. “As the TJTO does, it sets an example, which contributes more effectively and with visible results”.

Environmental Education

The Solidary Selective Collection, promoted by TJTO, is developed by Cogersa. The environmental education aspect was also mentioned during the event. In her pronouncement, Judge Renata do Nascimento e Silva, Director of the Court of the city of Paraíso, made an explanation focused on the importance of initiatives like this one. “This work is so important that it will serve this generation and the next. It is an environmental education program. And sustainability is also for a better quality of life, a healthier life”, she said, pointing out that the environmental legislation in Brazil is broad and, therefore, “there is a need to know, learn and act”.

Repercussion

The Director of the State Public Defender (DPE) in the city of Paraíso, Arlete Kellen Dias Muniz, said she was proud to participate in the initiative. “We need environmental education. It is a project of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, which is embraced by all, but they know that who will win with it is the citizen. It is all of us”, she said.

Environmental education was the focus of the pronouncement of the coordinator of the Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Paraíso, Rodrigo Barbosa Garcia Vargas. Also in this line, the mayor of the city of Paraíso, Celso Morais, guaranteed a support for the initiative of TJTO, with infrastructure. “Environmental education is important for the improvement of our lives. This is the way. We will move forward”, he said, citing some projects of his administration in the area of the environment.
