Judge Viviane Vieira Do Amaral Award: Project Applications Open Until July 31st

Actions and projects aimed at preventing and combating domestic and family violence can be entered in the 4th edition of the Judge Viviane Vieira do Amaral Award until July 31st. Created by the National Council of Justice (CNJ), the award is given in six categories: courts, representatives of the judiciary, the Criminal Justice System – State Prosecution, Public Defender's Office - the legal profession, civil servers, as well as categories for the media, academic production and non-governmental organizations.

According to the award notice, the projects entered must have been carried out in the last two years. When filling in the electronic form, you must also send files - videos, photos and PDF documents - demonstrating the application and results of the practice. It is also necessary to identify the main causes of problems, with an indication of the improvement plans and the expected results; a description of the difficulties encountered during implementation and how the measure can be replicated elsewhere.

The evaluation will be based on criteria such as quality, relevance, social reach, creativity, innovation, results and potential for replicability. The initiatives can be individual or collective, with the participation of other professionals or institutions.

In the category of Judges, an outstanding award will be given to projects, programs or actions that focus on the prevention and eradication of violence against women in vulnerable populations. The effectiveness - concrete or potential - of the project, program or action and the possibility of its multiplication will also be assessed.

It will be checked whether the project has a basis in national legislation and positive compliance in the analysis of constitutionality and conventionality and attention to the Recommendations of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

Award
Established by the Resolution 377/2021 of the CNJ, the “Judge Viviane Vieira do Amaral CNJ Award” was created to honor the memory of the Judge of the Court of Justice of the State of Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ) Viviane Vieira do Amaral, who was the victim of a femicide committed by her ex-husband in December of 2020.

With the creation of the Award, the National Council of Justice (CNJ) aims to give visibility to actions to prevent and combat family and domestic violence, encourage the implementation of appropriate and accessible protection mechanisms to prevent future or potential violence against women and girls. The Judge Viviane Vieira do Amaral CNJ Award also seeks to raise awareness among members of the Judiciary about the need for permanent vigilance in confronting this growing type of violence.
