Distressed by the departure of Minister Paulo de Tarso Sanseverino, of the Superior Court of Justice, the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) is deeply saddened by the death of such an esteemed jurist, an enthusiast of social causes and of excellence in the provision of justice, who has always been at the forefront of agendas that promote human rights in all its representations. The Brazilian Judiciary loses one of its great exponents.
A career Judge, he had been a Judge of the Court of Justice of the State of Rio Grande do Sul since 1999. A native of the city of Porto Alegre, he had a master's and doctorate from the Law School of the Federal University of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. He left his luminous mark as a Director of the School of the Judges of the Association of Judges of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (AJURIS) in 2006 and 2007.
At this time of sadness and longing, Esmat is in solidarity with his family and friends in the certainty that his legacy will never be erased and that the memory of his journey will be an incentive to new generations of Brazilian magistrates.
