In partnership with several institutions in the state of Tocantins, program of tre-to takes citizenship to indigenous communities

Developed in partnership with several public institutions and society, the initiative of the Regional Electoral Court of the State of Tocantins (TRE-TO) takes citizenship to indigenous communities. The first action of this year is scheduled for April 19th, Day of the Indigenous Peoples, in Tocantínia, a city 86 km from Palmas, in the central region of the State. The activities will take place at the Xerente Wara Indigenous High School - CEMIX, starting at 10am.

It is the permanent program of Sociopolitical Inclusion of Indigenous Peoples, made by the Electoral Judiciary School (EJE), of TRE-TO. "Recognized nationally for the impact it has had on traditional communities, especially by strengthening the participation of the indigenous peoples in politics, the program now also aims to broaden the dialogue of all the institutions in the justice system about the basic needs of the indigenous peoples," said Judge Wellington Magalhães, coordinator of the program.

Rights 

The objective of the program is to build instruments for the full realization of citizenship rights of the indigenous peoples, guiding them about the importance of voting with a view to giving them greater inclusion in the democratic process and national development, with the preservation of cultural customs and traditions, strengthening indigenous participation in Brazilian politics and the representativeness of these peoples through the exchange of experiences and dialogue.

Partners 

The event will count on the partnership of State and Federal entities such as Funai (National Foundation of the Indigenous Peoples), Public Defender's Office of the State ofTocantins, the State Government (through several departments), the Federal University of the State of Tocantins (UFT), the Federal University of the Northern of the State of Tocantins (UFNT), the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT), the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO), the Brazilian Army, among others.

Schedule of meetings

The next meetings will be in June, on the 1st, 2nd and/or 3rd, in the Krahô ethnic group, in the city of Goiatins and Itacajá, with the people from the Pedra Branca and Manoel Alves villages; in August, on the 3rd, 4th and/or 5th, in the Karajá ethnic group, in the city of Cristalândia, Bananal Island, in the Santa Isabel, Fontoura and Macaúbas villages; In September, the meeting will be held on the 13th, 14th, 15th and/or 16th, in the Javaé ethnic group, in the city of Formoso do Araguaia, in the Canoanã and São João villages. In October, the actions will take place on the 18th, 19th, 20th, and/or 21st, in the Apinajé ethnic group, in the city of Tocantinópolis, favoring the Mariazinha and São José villages.
