II Seminar in Celebration of the International Day for People with Disabilities discusses accessibility, respect and occupation of work spaces

Following up on the discussion and implementation work of insertion policies for people with disabilities in job positions, also ensuring the fundamental rights of human beings, the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, by means of the Permanent Commission for Accessibility and Inclusion of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins, in partnership with the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) held this Friday (3rd), the II Seminar in Celebration of the International Day for People with Disabilities. The date was instituted in 1993 by the United Nations Organization (UNO).

For the president of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins, Judge João Rigo Guimarães, the theme is important and current and needs the empathy of the whole society. "It is essential for all people who are not disabled to have the understanding, the greatness of spirit to create means of accessibility, making a human and moral commitment. This respect, this vision, is very important," he said.

At the ceremony, Judge Marco Villas Boas, General Director of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) awarded the Medal of Academic Merit to the magistrate Adhemar Chúfalo Filho for his relevant services rendered to the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins. Master in Human Rights Judicial Provision by Esmat/UFT, the magistrate has been disabled for over 30 years after suffering an accident. "Doctor Adhemar is a person who transmits us the message that everything is possible in life, all achievements are accessible. All you have to do is dream. He is a living example of all of this. But also because of the ethics with which he carries out his work, his academic spirit is worthy of the commendation that the School of the Judges offers", he remembered.

In her speech, the President of the Managing Committee of the Sustainable Logistic Plan of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins and Deputy Chief Justice, Judge Ângela Prudente, said it is necessary to join forces to achieve the expected transformation, eliminating barriers such as attitudinal and communicational barriers. "It is part of the democratic process to ensure the rights of this population, in the construction of a society that truly values human diversity, understanding that it is our main wealth. I understand that the public manager must make the spaces he or she administers more accessible. This is how the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins has acted, aware of its fundamental role in the formation of a fairer and more inclusive society, once it inserted in its socio-environmental strategy the Sustainable Logistic Plan with treatment of the accessibility and social responsibility theme, as a goal to be reached until 2026, with indicators, monitoring system and disclosure of execution results", he highlighted.

The President of the Permanent Commission for Accessibility and Inclusion of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins and vice-president of CJTO, Judge Pedro Nelson de Miranda Coutinho reinforced the efforts of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins to promote accessibility to servers and users of the services provided by CJTO. "In the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, accessibility in all its modalities has been treated with the purpose of improving and promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities. We can cite the fulfillment of the guidelines from the National Justice Council published in Resolution 400/2021, regarding the establishment of goals and indicators for accessibility and inclusion and the development of architectural projects with accessibility requirements. Moreover, the Court created the Social-Environmental Management and Social Responsibility Coordination, to enable the communication between the Judiciary and people with disabilities and to meet possible administrative demands that may arise", he stated.

International Day

In 2021 the United Nations Organization (UNO), in the celebrations in honor of people with disabilities, used the expression 'Building Better', which encompasses actions to recover, rehabilitate, and rebuild after a disaster, increasing the resilience of nations and communities, integrating disaster risk reduction, restoration of physical infrastructure and social systems, and revitalization of livelihoods, economies, and the environment, with the theme "Leadership and Participation of People with Disabilities for an Inclusive, Accessible, and Sustainable Post-COVID-19 World".
