Araguaína, in the North of the State, will be the first city to receive the Itinerant Exhibition "Silenced Voices: Struggle of Paula for Freedom". The exhibition, promoted by the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO), with support from the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat), will be inaugurated on Thursday (Nov 27th), at 7:30 pm, at Lake Center Shopping, and it will remain open to the public until Friday (Nov 28th).

The action proposes a sensible and historical immersion in the reality of slavery in the territory of the state of Tocantins, through the trajectory of Paula, black and enslaved woman who conquered her freedom thirty years before the Golden Law, in 1858.

"The Court, through the Commission for Memory Management and Esmat, developed this relevant research work, which rescues the story of a black and enslaved woman who won her freedom decades before the abolition of slavery, through a legal action, exactly in the region where the state of Tocantins is located today", highlights the president of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO), Justice Maysa Vendramini Rosal.

The initiative integrates the celebrations of the Day of Justice, celebrated on December 8th, and it will visit two more cities in the State:

Gurupi: Araguaia Shopping Center – December 3rd and 4th

Palmas: Capim Dourado Shopping Center – December 7th and 8th

A legacy of memory and justice

The exhibition rescues the trajectory of Paula, black and enslaved woman who, in 1858, in the territory now belonging to the state of Tocantins, fought and legally won her freedom. By giving visibility to this achievement, the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins reaffirms its commitment to social justice and the preservation of historical memory. The initiative is aligned with the guidelines of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and the National Program for Document Management and Memory of the Judiciary (Proname), promoting a critical review of the past and encouraging the recognition of struggles for freedom, dignity and inclusion. The exhibition is an invitation to reflect on the historical wounds left by slavery and the importance of preserving and valuing collective memory as an instrument of transformation.

Ombudsman

The Judicial Ombudsman of the TJTO will also be present in the three editions of the Silenced Voices Itinerant Exhibition, with direct service to the public and receiving suggestions, complaints and other manifestations from the community, strengthening the channel for dialogue with the Judiciary.
