Justice, Care And Ancestry: Judiciary Of The State Of Tocantins Promotes Iii Seminar Of The Elderly

In Brazil today, the elderly already outnumber the young. Recent data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) indicate that more than 32 million people are 60 years or older, equivalent to 16% of the population. This profound demographic change increasingly requires Justice System to broaden its focus on rights, challenges and care for the elderly.

It is with this commitment that the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins holds, on October 1st, from 1:30 pm, the III Seminar of the Elderly Person of the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins, with the theme on "Justice, care and ancestry".

The event is an initiative of the General Internal Affairs of Justice (CGJUS), through the Coordination of Citizenship (Cocid) and the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tcantins (Esmat), and it will be promoted in hybrid format, in the auditorium of the Court of Justice (TJTO), with live broadcast to the counties of the interior and other regions.

Coordinated by Judge Márcio Soares da Cunha, the event is free and open to the public. Those interested can sign up clicking here.

Urgent issues, plural voices

The programming brings together experts from different areas to discuss sensitive and urgent topics: the right to care, mental health, the rights of elderly indigenous populations and the challenges of public policies in the context of aging. Check out the full schedule here.

The action integrates the national calendar in reference to the Day of the Elderly, celebrated on October 1st, and it is aligned with the Resolution no 520 of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), of 2023, which establishes the Judicial Policy on Elderly People and their intersectionality.
