Ad-Jus Workshop On Judicial Decision-Making In Health For Natjus-To Held At Esmat

“A unique opportunity". This is how the Judge and General Coordinator of NatJus-TO, Milene de Carvalho Henrique, described the Workshop 6 of the Project on "AD-JUS - Technical-Scientific Support for Judicial Decision-Making in Health in Brazil", which began on Wednesday morning (August 7th) at the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat).

Chosen by the National Council of Justice (CNJ) to host the event, the technicians who work at the NatJus in the State of Tocantins will accompany researchers from the Center of Health Technology Assessment at the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital (NATS-HSL) throughout the day, with the aim of developing proposals, content and scientific materials to help overcome the challenges posed by the judicialization of health.

In a statement, NATS-HSL researcher Ana Luiza Cabrera Martimbianco explained that the regional workshops are part of the Ad-Jus Project, a technical support initiative for the Judiciary, which aims to contribute to the preparation of technical notes with scientific backing.

"The aim is to base these technical notes that they [technicians and magistrates] receive on the best scientific evidence available. This will bring more transparency to the process and more confidence in what will be granted or denied and in the recommendation that will be given in the technical note for the decision of the magistrate," she said.

"Basically, that's it: bringing a technical-scientific contribution with scientific evidence and a very critical evaluation approach. The people who draw up the technical notes leave the workshops with an eye towards critically evaluating this evidence, understanding what good scientific evidence is, well done and with good methodology, and distinguishing it from more dubious and impartial scientific evidence. The separation of what is more reliable from what is not so reliable is the central point of the workshops," added the researcher.

For the General Coordinator of NatJus-TO, Milene de Carvalho, the process of translation and the use of simple language in the production of the technical notes also make a difference in the accomplishment of the work.

"The aim of the workshops is to carry out structured activities, covering technical-scientific content, with innovative approaches, according to the specific needs of each NatJus," she said.

According to the schedule, magistrates and advisors from the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins will take part in the workshop on Thursday, tomorrow (August 8th), in the morning, from 8am to 12pm.
