Continuing the programming of the III Judiciary Week for Preventing and Combating Harassment and Discrimination in all its forms, this time at the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat), three thematic workshops were held on Wednesday morning (May 8th), focusing on debates related to racial discrimination, sexual and gender diversity.

Workshop 1

Taught by Professor Leandro Ferreira da Silva, the Workshop 1 provided an opportunity to learn about the concepts and paradigms linked to racial discrimination. Using an expository-dialogued approach, Leandro developed how to identify the different ways in which racism manifests itself in society, from institutionalized racism to interpersonal and internalized racism.

Workshop 2

Workshop 2, led by Professor Lucrecia Borges Barbosa, dealt with discrimination and sexual diversity. Specifically, she talked about the paths to inclusion in contemporary times, as well as the process of deconstructing preconceptions in relation to the LGBTQIA+ community and the importance of understanding the role of law and jurisprudence in confronting the violence suffered by the community.

Workshop 3

Professors Emilleny Souza and Carlos Mendes Rosa gave Workshop 3 on gender discrimination. During their presentations, they defined the types of bullying; what characterizes bullying, with practical examples; what is gender discrimination?; gender stereotypes and prejudices, and how they manifest themselves in the workplace.

This particular activity aimed to develop metrics and procedures to measure the effectiveness of policies to prevent bullying and gender discrimination and to promote continuous improvement by creating a feedback process to ensure the improvement of practices and policies related to bullying and gender discrimination.

"As the coordinator of the workshop on gender, I would like to thank the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins for the opportunity to address a topic that is so dear and important to the health and quality of the institutional and personal relationships of those who make up the judiciary of the State of Tocantins. A professional life is not separate from a personal life; both have a mutual impact on this human being who, regardless of the advances in technology, is the most sacred and essential thing for us to be able to serve society in its pain and needs," commented the coordinator of the Gender and Racial Equity Management Committee of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, Judge Rosa Maria Gazire Rossi.

Rosa Maria, who also coordinated the Workshop, added:

It was a time of great learning, with two extremely qualified people who gave us in-depth reflections on our current problems, but also answers and possible decision-making so that we can move forward in this public policy of gender equity and racial equity.

Also coordinating the workshops were Janivaldo Ribeiro Nunes (Workshop 1) and Gustavo Mendes dos Santos Póvoa (Workshop 2).

The programming for the III Judiciary Week for Preventing and Combating Harassment and Discrimination in all its forms continues until Friday (May 10th). Click here for more information on the rest of the activities taking place.
