Week To Prevent And Combat Harassment Will Open On Monday (May 6th) With A Round Table Discussion On Gender And Race

The round table discussion on "The gender issue with a racial slant", with Judge Renata do Nascimento and Journalist Maju Cotrim, opens the programming for the III Judiciary Week for Preventing and Combating Harassment and Discrimination in all its forms, on Monday (May 6th), starting at 7pm, in the auditorium of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO).

The lecture will be mediated by the Director of the Court of the city of Palmas, Judge Flávia Afini Bovo, and it will be coordinated by Janete Almeida Servidora. The first evening of the event will end with an autograph session of the book “Popular Quilombola Women Warriors” (Guerreiras Populares Quilombolas), by journalist Maju Cotrim. The public will also be able to see the Quilombola Women Warriors (Guerreiras Quilombolas) exhibition in the entrance hall of the TJTO.

The official opening of the event will be attended by the President of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO), Justice Etelvina Maria Sampaio Felipe, the vice-President of the TJTO, Justice Ângela Prudente; Justice Ângela Issa Hanoat, President of the Commission for the Prevention and Combat of Moral and Sexual Harassment and Discrimination of the 2nd Degree; the Chief Justice, Justice Maysa Vendramini Rosal, and Justice Pedro Nelson de Miranda Coutinho, President of the Health Committee of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins and the Permanent Commission for Accessibility and Inclusion (CPAI).

The week, which is open to the public, will take place from May 6th to 10th. There will be five days of activities, the aim of which is to provide an understanding of what harassment and discrimination is, particularly in the workplace, what the profile of the harasser is and who suffers it, how it starts, what to do to prevent it and deal with it, and also to provoke reflection in magistrates, civil servers, outsourced workers, trainees and other employees about the institutional responses given so far to harassment and discrimination in the workplace within the Judiciary, so that there are more welcoming working environments.

The event is being held by the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) in partnership with the Commission for the Prevention and Combat of Moral and Sexual Harassment of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins (PJTO).

The lecturers

Renata do Nascimento e Silva has been a Judge since 2008. She is currently the head of the Criminal Court of the city of Paraíso do Tocantins. She holds a master's degree in Legal Sciences from the College of Law of the University of Lisbon. She is a specialist in Public Law at Projeção College, in agreement with the Center for Legal Studies (Fortium), and a post-graduate student in Contemporary Criminal Jurisdiction and the Prison System at the National Training School for Magistrates (Enfam).  She is a member of the following groups: Monitoring and Inspection of the Prison System (GMF); Intelligence Center of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins; Work aimed at carrying out studies, preparing proposals and supporting the National Forum of Penal Alternatives (Fonape); and the committees: Gender Equity Policy Manager of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins and Prevention and Combat of Moral and Sexual Harassment within the 2nd degree of the TJTO.

Maju Cotrim is a journalist, managing editor and co-founder of “Gazeta do Cerrado” and a specialist in Ethnic-Racial Communication and Political Marketing. She is the founder and coordinator of the Crespas Institute.TO. She is the author of the book " Popular Quilombola Women Warriors" (Guerreiras Populares Quilombolas), which tells the story and trajectory of 50 quilombolas from the State of Tocantins. She is a researcher and lecturer in the area of strategic policies for social reparation and communication for diversity.
