Esmat Closes First Class Of The Literary Workshops Of 2024

The last reading circle on the book "Dumping Room" took place on April 24th and it was attended by civil servers and trainees from the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins. The book, which was discussed by this first group, tells the story of the author Carolina Maria de Jesus in her daily life in the Canindé slum in the city of São Paulo.

Facilitator Bianca Pereira da Silva, a Social Worker accredited by the Management Group of Multidisciplinary Teams (GGEM), with a master's degree in social work, spoke about the reality of black women living in poverty and their difficulties in dealing with the public policies offered by the State. The book, set in the 1950s and 1960s, presents, in a way, the context that still exists today with regard to violence and access for the black population in situations of vulnerability.

Amanda Emilene, a civil server, said it wasn't easy to read: "It's not a book you devour, it's a sad reading that hits you hard and makes you reflect every two or three pages. For me, the first few pages caused a certain revolt due to the timelessness of the facts narrated, because we still live in a starving society, we still see completely unhealthy and marginalized housing, we see people who survive on garbage, and we don't see a light of possible change in this scenario," she shared.

She also stressed the importance of this and all kinds of reading. "That's why it's important to read, get to know, live with and try to find a solution in some way. Hunger doesn't wait for politics. It arrives and doesn't go away. Carolina wrote to forget hunger," she said.

Three more workshops are scheduled for 2024. New information on registration for the second class will be published on May 10th.

The project is promoted by the Directorate of People Management (Digep) of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO) in partnership with the Superior School of the Judges of the the State of Tocantins (Esmat).
