Judge Wellington Magalhães ministers a lecture at Enfam for newly appointed judges from the State of Ceará

Magistrate Wellington Magalhães, titular of the District of Cristalândia (TO) and trainer of the National School for Training and Improvement of Magistrates (ENFAM), ministered, on the afternoon of Tuesday (7th), at the headquarters of Enfam, in Brasilia, the lecture on The Judiciary and the Law of Indigenous Peoples, in the programming of the National Module of Initial Training of magistrates newly entered into the career, approved in the Court of the State of Ceará (TJCE). The National Module of Initial Training continues until Friday, March 10th.

The class has 22 magistrates, most of them aged between 30 and 40. The initial training is mandatory and it consists of 480 hours of classes, spread over four months. Forty hours of classes correspond to the National Module, which is the responsibility of Enfam. The structure covers topics such as Ethics; Human Rights; Repetitive Claims and Major Litigants; Mediation and Conciliation; Social Security; Prison System; Restorative Justice; Virtual Law; and Conventionality Control. Also part of the curriculum are topics specifically related to management, aimed at the proper functioning of the courts in which the Judges will exercise their judicial activities.

In his class, the magistrate spoke about the rights of native peoples, presented case studies and sentences based on federal laws, such as the Indian Statute, as well as sociological and anthropological issues.


About the lecturer

Wellington Magalhães – Master in Constitutional Law, from the University of Coimbra, Portugal (FDUC), and in Human Rights and Judicial Provision, from the Federal University of the State of Tocantins (UFT/ESMAT). PhD candidate in Regional Development, with emphasis on the intervention of the Judicial Power in the implementation of environmental public policies. He wrote the Judiciary and Globalization book, published by Juruá Editor, in 2016. He is the author of several scientific articles published in magazines and websites specialized in legal publications.
