Esmat particpates in Webinar “Olhar Direito” with actress Dira Paes

In a special screening session of the unprecedented film PUREZA and with the proposal to raise the discussion on work analogous to slavery and the social inequalities arising in the interior of the country, the School of Judges of Tocantins (ESMAT), through the Stricto Sensu Post-Graduation Program in Human Rights and Jurisdictional Provision, in partnership with the Federal University of Tocantins, held this Monday (20th) a Cine Forum on the film “Pureza”. Participated in the virtual discussion, graduates and teachers of the Master course developed by Esmat, professionals of the justice system, defenders of Human Rights, and the global actress Dira Paes, accompanied by the Director of the film Renato Barbieri.

Inspired by a true story, the film is the result of 12 years of research and addresses the issue of contemporary slave labor in the northern region of the country. Based on the journey of a mother in search of her son, Pureza Lopes Loiola, the work is directed by the filmmaker Renato Barbieri. Shot in 2018 in the municipality of Marabá, in the south of the state of Pará, the film has not premiered on a national circuit yet. During the Webinar, the film's director and the actress Dira Paes participated in the discussion. The event was also attended by members of social movements, such as the Pastoral Land Commission (CPT), UFT professors, members of the State Prosecution (MPT), of the Public Defender's Office of the State of Tocantins (DPE) , among others.

In an interview with O Globo Journal, Dira Paes and Pureza Lopes Loiola met on the filming set of “Pureza” in Marabá. The actress says the role makes her reflect on the power of a mother’s love. In search of her son, Pureza Lopes Loiola traveled for three years to farms that enslaved workers. The film, directed by Renato Barbieri, will tell that story.

In the interview, the director points out that the work is inspired by real events and says: “we opted for naturalism, we want a true cinema with documentary elements. The artist Dira Paes, known for dozens of roles in Brazilian soap operas and also in national cinematographic productions, stressed the importance of being able to interview the main character of the film. "I was able to remove a lot of things after knowing the script and listening to her, I saw that there was a lot that she complemented, that she gave me to apply in this Pureza that I am doing," she said.
