The Latin American Forum on Human Security for Human Rights and the XII International Congress on Human Rights, on its first day, speaks of empowerment of indigenous communities and violence in Latin America

Topics such as human security, sustainability, and political and social mechanisms aimed at reducing violent death rates in Latin America will be addressed during the three days of the event. On the first day's program, members of the European Community, bodies linked to the United Nations (UN) and Brazil, and magistrates dealt with activities of empowerment and sustainability of traditional communities present on Bananal Island, Tocantins State, Amazon, Brazil.

In the first phase of the event, Professor Yukio Takasu, special advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General for Human Security, representing the United Nations Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS), dealt with the "Human Security Approach to Strengthening Human Rights and Sustainable Development”.

In the afternoon, the general director of the School of Judges of Tocantins (ESMAT) and president of the Colégio Permanent Directors of State Schools of the Magistracy (COPEDEM), Judge Marco Villas Boas, presented the project Good Community Practices of Social Inclusion and Promotion of the Culture of Peace, carried out in the traditional indigenous communities of Tocantins. 

Hitomi Kubo, an officer of the United Nations Human Security Unit in New York, United States, then spoke about "Security and Human Rights for the Relief of Violent Deaths in Latin America.

The event is organized by the Latin American Permanent Committee on Crime Prevention (COPLAD) - Program of the United Nations Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (ILANUD) - which is based in San Jose, Costa Rica, and as international partners the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of the Magistracy (COPEDEM) and the School of Judges of Tocantins (ESMAT), through the Graduate Program Stricto Sensu in Jurisdiction and Human Rights (UFT/ESMAT).
