Workshop on general law for extrajudicial data protection discusses advances and challenges foreseen by the law

The benefits, as well as the challenges and risks of not implementing the General Law of Data Protection (LGPD) were discussed in the Workshop on General Law of Extrajudicial Data Protection, held by the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins, through the Office of the General Internal Affairs of Justice in partnership with the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT). The event was held in the Distance Learning modality through Esmat's page on the YouTube platform.

At the opening, Judge Etelvina Maria Sampaio Felipe, General Inspector of Justice, reinforced that the Workshop is aligned to the Strategic Planning in the Macro-challenge of Strengthening the National ICT and Data Protection Strategy, aiming to instruct on measures that must be adopted to adapt the registries to Law No. 13,709, of August 14th, 2018, the General Law of Personal Data Protection (LGPD). "The LGPD brings with it the purpose of producing significant reflections in Brazilian society. It is a new paradigm in the treatment of citizens' personal information, which resonates in the judicial activity, and notary and registry services," she said.

Mediated by the magistrate Roniclay Alves de Morais, auxiliary Judge of the General Internal Affairs of Justice, the Workshop was presented by Judge Denise de Souza Luiz Francoski, from the Court of Justice of the State of Santa Catarina, who didactically and clearly presented the changes brought by the General Law of Data Protection.  "The LGPD will make a huge change in our lives, not only in the professional issue, but also in our personal and social lives. In our family, with our friends, in a purchase or sale we are going to make, in all these issues the general law will be protagonist", he stated.

The General Law for the Protection of Personal Data (LGPD), Law No. 13,709 of 2018, came into force on September 18th, 2020, putting Brazil on the way to consolidate and spread the culture of personal data protection and privacy. In addition to closer commercial relations with suppliers and foreign partners, we see a certain acceleration in the wave of adequacy projects, which inevitably raises many practical questions regarding the application of the concepts and rules of the law, making training on the subject necessary.
