Esmat Starts Workshop On Data Protection In The Judiciary

On Monday morning (May 12th), the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) kicked off the First Workshop on Data Protection in the Judiciary. During the official opening, Judge Manuel de Faria Reis Neto stressed the importance of the commitment of civil servers to the subject.

“It is essential to recognize and value the commitment of those who will work directly with this agenda, whether advising or in their respective directorates, contributing to a more responsible culture aligned with the principles of data protection,” he said.

The initiative aims to promote and disseminate the culture of personal data protection within the Judiciary through dialogues and activities that provide an overview of the entire data governance and regulation ecosystem.

The first meeting, led by Carlos Nascimento, lawyer and general coordinator for Standardization at the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD), covered the topic of “The General Data Protection Law”, introducing participants to the foundations and principles of the legislation, the rights of data subjects, the processing agents and the role of the Judiciary in guaranteeing the protection of personal data.

During his talk, the facilitator highlighted the lack of awareness about the importance of data protection. “There is a lack of awareness about privacy and personal data protection. And not just in the public service, but in the population as a whole. Today, one of the main challenges of the ANPD is to find the balance needed to create value for privacy. We live under constant surveillance and use of our data, which is why moments like this are essential,” he said.

The training continues throughout Monday and it will end on Tuesday (May 13th), with the Workshop on Information Security and Challenges with Artificial Intelligence Tools, given by Douglas Chagas, PhD professor at the State University of Tocantins (Unitins) and coordinator of Information Technology at the Ministry of Racial Equality (MIR).
