Esmat Concludes Training On Digital Evidence In Criminal Procedure For Magistrates And Advisors

This Friday (March 14th), the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) concluded its course on Digital Evidence in Criminal Procedure, training magistrates and civil servers of the Judiciary to deal with the challenges of new technologies applied to criminal investigation and prosecution.

The 8-hour course was led by criminal lawyer Maria Jamile José, who specializes in Economic Criminal Law and holds a master's degree in Procedural Law from USP.

During the classes, participants learned more about the chain of custody of digital evidence, means of obtaining and preserving electronic data, the impact of artificial intelligence on the judiciary, as well as issues related to the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) in the criminal context.

Judge Cibele Maria Bellezi, who took part in the training as a student, highlighted the relevance of the course for judicial practice: 

“The course on digital evidence in criminal procedure offered by Esmat proved to be extremely necessary, because, with the speed with the technology is changing, and people increasingly connected to devices and social networks, we must qualify ourselves to be prepared to decide and judge cases involving this type of evidence, observing due process of law,” he commented.
