The National Council of Justice (CNJ) implemented new tools aimed at strengthening environmental action within the Judiciary. Among the initiatives are the Simplified Manual of Quantification of Environmental Damage, already available on the portal of the CNJ, and the improvement of the Interactive National Panel of Environmental Data (Sirenejud), which now has new functionalities and free access to the public.
According to the CNJ, the Simplified Manual of Quantification of Environmental Damage is a reference material developed within the framework of the Environmental Forum of the Judiciary (Fonamb). The document gathers objective and technically grounded guidelines to assist magistrates and other operators of the Justice System in conducting complex environmental processes.
The manual can be accessed by this link.
The publication consolidates concepts, good practices and guidelines for the economic valuation of environmental damage, including socio-environmental impacts that affect traditional peoples and communities.
The Sirenejud platform, available in: https://sirenejud.cnj.jus.br/, becomes counting on, after updating, features such as consulting geographical layers and searching by process number. The tool allows immediate visualization of geo referenced areas related to environmental damage, as well as identification of intersections and overlaps with indigenous lands, Quilombo communities, conservation units, public forests, and areas seized by Ibama, among others.
According to the CNJ, the new features broaden transparency, strengthen the technical analysis of cases and contribute to more accurate and well-founded judicial decisions in the environmental area.
