The Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins has taken another important step in building an accessible, inclusive and attentive Judiciary to different forms of social participation. From now on, in addition to translation into Libras, the sessions of the Full Court have the use of simultaneous subtitles to expand access to information for deaf or hearing impaired people, and also for elderly and citizens with partial hearing loss that will follow the hearings in person.

The news was implemented during the solemn session of the Opening of the Judicial Year of 2026, held on last Monday (Feb 4th), and it will be adopted permanently in all sessions of the Plenary.

For the President of the Court, Justice Maysa Vendramini Rosal, the measure translates, in practice, the institutional role of the Judiciary in promoting rights. "Accessibility is a right, and ensuring means that guarantee understanding and full participation in procedural acts represents an advance towards the Justice we want to build," she said.

The president of the Permanent Commission on Accessibility and Inclusion (CPAI/TJTO), Justice Angela Haonat, highlighted the symbolism of the initiative. "The implementation of subtitling in Plenary sessions was a milestone in the opening of the Judicial Year of 2026, in frank demonstration of commitment to inclusion and respect for the fundamental rights of people with disabilities," she said.

In the same line, the executive secretary of the CPAI/TJTO, Patrícia Idehara, highlighted that progress is a result of planning and institutional responsibility. "The Court of Justice has been working in a planned way to implement accessibility improvements. Last year, the Commission requested the inclusion of this action in the budget, and now the Court has been able to implement and expand the scope of communication for deaf people not literate in Libras", explained.

Accessibility and inclusion

The action is aligned with the principles of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, especially the Sustainable Development Goals that deal with the reduction of inequalities (SDG 10) and the strengthening of effective, responsible and inclusive institutions (SDG 16). It also complies with the guidelines of the National Council of Justice, through the Resolution no 401, of 2021, which establishes the accessibility policy within the Judiciary.

The adoption of accessible resources is one of the goals of the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins to promote inclusion and reduce inequalities that still impact part of society.
