On July 31st, the University of the State of São Paulo (USP) and nine legal institutions signed a cooperation agreement aimed at continuing education for professionals in the Justice System. The initiative marks the launch of the MBA program on “Generative Artificial Intelligence, Digital Law, and Innovation”, offered by the School of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities of USP (EACH-USP), in partnership with the Support Foundation of the University of the State of São Paulo (FUSP) and entities representing the Judiciary, the Federal Prosecution, and the Legal Profession.

The Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) and the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of the Magistracy (Copedem) are signatories to the agreement, which also includes the National Council of Public Prosecutors (CNMP), the Association of Brazilian Magistrates (AMB), the National School for the Training and Improvement of Labor Magistrates (Enamat), the State Prosecution of the State of Ceará, the National Superior School of Advocacy (ESA), the National Bar Association (BAR), and the Court of Auditors of Angola.

The agreement will initially be valid for five years, with plans for new training initiatives aimed at qualifying actors in the Justice System.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony held in the Hall of Acts at the USP Rectory. In his remarks, Justice Marco Anthony Steveson Villas Boas, general director of Esmat and president of Copedem, highlighted the importance of the proposal.

“The course was designed to meet the need for actors in this system to understand and apply, in a practical and ethical manner, the technological advances that impact their areas of activity," he said. The magistrate is also a member of the MBA faculty.

During the ceremony, Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, dean of USP, emphasized the role of public universities in developing solutions to contemporary challenges.

“It is the mission of USP to get closer to society, because a public university only makes sense if it is a vector of development for all segments of society. [...] This partnership we are signing today will allow us to better understand AI tools, learn about their potential and limitations, and exchange experiences,” he said.

Unique mba with exclusive methodology

With 428 hours of class load, the course is 100% ONLINE and it offers remote access to classes, specialized tutoring, a digital library, forums, and optional in-person meetings. The proposal is to combine theory, practice, and immediate applicability, with a strategic look at generative AI in the legal context.

The curriculum includes topics such as Cybersecurity, Jurimetrics, Digital Technology Regulation, Predatory Litigation, Blockchain, Smart Cities, and Digital Law. The content was designed to meet the guidelines of agencies such as CNJ, CNMP, AGU, and BAR.

Among the methodological differentials is the exclusive approach of Active Generative AI, developed by the course coordinators – Professor Ana Carla Bliacheriene and Professor Luciano Vieira de Araújo. Both are academic references and work in the formulation of innovative solutions for the public sector.

Fabiana de Sant’Anna Evangelista, deputy director of EACH, stated that “it is a course that will enable EACH to honor its commitment to academic excellence and the dissemination of knowledge, which greatly benefits the interests of society”.

The MBA is aimed at professionals in the Justice System in Brazil and CPLP countries. No prior knowledge of technology is required. The content was developed based on active methodologies and focused on legal practice, aligned with the real demands of the public sector.
