Registrations For The Viviane Do Amaral Award Continue Until June 8th

The National Council of Justice (CNJ) has extended the deadline for registering for the CNJ Viviane do Amaral Award for the Protection of Women Victims of Domestic and Family Violence until June 8th, 2025. The updated schedule was established by the Ordinance No. 140/2025, which modifies the art. 17 of the Ordinance No. 119/2025. The award seeks to recognize successful experiences that contribute for preventing and confronting domestic and family violence.

Those interested in taking part must sign up using the online form. The award is annual and experiences, activities, actions, projects, programs or academic productions carried out in the last two years can apply. The results of the award will be announced on July 4th. The awards ceremony has yet to be announced.

Categories included

The prize will be awarded in six categories: courts; judges; actors in the Criminal Justice system (State Prosecutions, public defenders, lawyers and civil servers); non-governmental organizations; the media; and academic production. In the category of magistrates, there will be a specific highlight award for projects aimed at preventing and eradicating violence against women in vulnerable populations.

The evaluation will be based on criteria such as quality, relevance, social reach, creativity, innovation and results. Registered initiatives must submit supporting documentation in PDF format, videos or photos and objectively report on the strategies adopted, the challenges faced and the results achieved.

For more information, those interested can access the full regulations for the 5th CNJ Judge Viviane Vieira do Amaral Award.

The winning practices may be publicized on the official channels of the CNJ, on Justice TV and on the social networks of partner institutions, as well as serving as a reference for replication in other units of the justice system. Winners will also be allowed to record a video with a testimonial or tutorial about the recognized practice.

Award

Established by the Resolution 377/2021 of the CNJ, the CNJ Judge Viviane Vieira do Amaral Award was created to honor the memory of Court of Justice of the state of Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ) Judge Viviane Vieira do Amaral, who was the victim of a femicide committed by her ex-husband in December, 2020.

With the creation of the award, the National Council of Justice aims to give visibility to actions to prevent and combat family and domestic violence, encourage the implementation of appropriate and accessible protection mechanisms to prevent future or potential violence against women and girls, and raise awareness among members of the Judiciary about the need for permanent vigilance in confronting this growing type of violence.
