Registrations Are Open For The 14th Amaerj Patrícia Acioli Human Rights Award

Entries are now open for the 14th AMAERJ Patrícia Acioli Human Rights Award. Entries must be submitted by May 28th and the award covers four categories: Works of Magistrates, Academic Works, Humanistic Practices and Journalistic Reports.

Five finalists will be selected in each category, and the top three will receive cash prizes as well as trophies. First place in each category, with the exception of the Works of Magistrates, will win R$17,000; second place, R$12,000; and third place, R$6,000.

The winners will be selected by a jury made up of experts in their respective fields, and the awards ceremony will take place on September 22nd.

Judge Eunice Haddad, president of AMAERJ; Justice Márcia Succi; and Judges Daniel Konder and Mirela Erbisti make up the Organizing Committee of the award.

Award

Created in 2012, the Award honors the memory of Judge Patrícia Acioli, who was killed by military police in 2011 when she was the head of the 4th Criminal Court of São Gonçalo. The award aims to identify, disseminate and stimulate actions in defense of human rights, giving visibility to practices and work in the area.

The award has the support of the Court of Justice of the State of Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ) and the School of the Judges of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Emerj), as well as sponsorship from the National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC), Multiplan, Rio City Hall and the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj).
