Legal Residents Take A Class With Directors Of Esmat Marco Villas Boas And Wellington Magalhães

On Wednesday afternoon (February 12th), students of the LATO SENSU Postgraduate Course in Judicial Practice promoted by the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) had a special class given by Justice Marco Villas Boas, the general director of the school. With a master's degree in Constitutional Law and a doctorate in Legal and Political Sciences from the College of Law of the University of Lisbon, and a doctorate in Constitutional Law from PUC-Rio, the professor explained his lesson on Constitutional Law. Magistrate and professor Wellington Magalhães, deputy director of Esmat, also took part in the activity. 

The class given by the general director of Esmat, who is also president of the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of the Magistracy (Copedem), covered topics such as the control of constitutionality, the importance of reasoning in constitutional decisions and the influence of jurists such as Kelsen, Dworkin and Alexy on the development of Constitutional Law.

During his talk, the students had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of constitutional jurisdiction, the application of the weighing of principles and the importance of constitutional interpretation.

In his speech, professor Marco Villas Boas also highlighted the importance of the Citizen Constitution of 1988, recalling the words of Ulisses Guimarães, president of the Chamber of Deputies and of the Constituent Assembly, who referred to the Magna Charter as a “Citizen Constitution”. The justice explained that this expression represented the objective of putting man at the forefront, recognizing his fundamental rights and guarantees.

About the doctor professor 

With a solid academic background, with a master's degree in Constitutional Law and a doctorate in Legal and Political Sciences from the College of Law of the University of Lisbon, as well as a doctorate in Constitutional Law from PUC-Rio, Marco Villas Boas is the general director of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) and president of the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of the Magistracy (Copedem). He has held important positions in the Judiciary, such as the presidency of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins and the Regional Electoral Court of the State of Tocantins. He is a member of the Academy of Letters of the state of Tocantins, an international lecturer and the author of several articles and legal works, contributing significantly to the development of Constitutional Law.
