On Monday (September 30th), librarian Silvânia Olortegui, from the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat), delivered one hundred and sixty-eight (168) books to the Silvério Ribeiro de Matos School, in the Mumbuca Quilombo. The action was led by a team made up of Judge Wellington Magalhães, Silvânia Olortegui, Rita de Cássia and Hodirley Canguçu, who took copies collected in previous donation campaigns promoted by Esmat.
The initiative sought to expand learning opportunities, with an emphasis on books that dealt with Afro-Brazilian culture and history, promoting the strengthening of the cultural identity of the students. According to Judge Wellington Magalhães, this action reflects the commitment of Esmat to social inclusion and human rights.
“This is a special moment because, through education, we reaffirm our commitment to future generations. Esmat fulfills its mission not only to train magistrates and civil servers, but also to contribute to social inclusion and human rights,” he said.
Librarian Silvânia emphasized the transformative impact of the action. “The donation of books empowers the community, providing tools for its members to become the protagonists of their own stories. The knowledge acquired strengthens their ability to claim and recognize rights, as well as enabling them to participate more actively in society,” she said.
The Silvério Ribeiro de Matos School, which offers primary education, has 59 students and seven teachers, responsible for subjects such as Portuguese Language and Literature, Physical Education, Arts (Artistic Education, Theater, Dance, Music, Plastic Arts and others), Foreign Language and Literature - English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Religious Education, among others (data from the School Census of 2023, INEP).
