On Indigenous Peoples Day (April 19th), we honor the strength, tradition and resistance of all ethnic groups. In the State of Tocantins, IBGE surveys estimate a population of more than fourteen thousand indigenous people, distributed among nine ethnic groups: Karajá, Xambioá, Javaé, Xerente, Apinajé, Krahô, Krahô-Kanela, Avá-Canoeiro (Black Face) and Pankararu. In each tradition, history and struggle, indigenous peoples teach us the importance of preservation and respect.
