In an era in which technology redefines the boundaries of what is possible, the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO), through the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) and the University of São Paulo (USP), will present, on Monday, April 15th, 2024, a pioneering and revolutionary platform that uses Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) to analyze the admissibility of constitutional, special and extraordinary appeals. This project, which also has the support of the Taqui startup, formed by researchers from the SmartCitiesBR research group from USP, stands out as a mark in the responsible and innovative use of Generative AI in the Brazilian judicial system.
The research and prototypes for the use of IAG have been developed and tested at Esmat since 2023, under the coordination of Professors Ana Carla Bliacheriene and Luciano Vieira de Araújo from USP, who will make the virtual presentation, marking a new mark for this school in the continuing training of Judges and civil servers of the TJTO, on the safe and responsible use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in the legal context.
The platform presented is not just a technological tool; it is an initiative that reflects the commitment of academia and the judiciary to ethics, efficiency and transparency in the use of Generative AIs. Using advanced algorithms, the platform is capable of processing a wide range of court documents - from petitions and subpoenas to certificates and judgments. The technology has demonstrated a remarkable ability to generate, in a secure and accurate automatic way, summaries, reports, orders and detailed drafts that include relevant facts, legal grounds, draft decisions, as well as reasons for appeal.
A Pioneer Aproach
Unlike other tools that operate in a chat format and analyze documents individually through prompts, the solution of the State of Tocantins adopts a transversal approach. Considering the challenges presented by the large and growing volume of cases and data that the courts have to judge, the platform is designed to process large volumes of data simultaneously, ensuring compliance with the laws in force and the creation of adequate legal support for decisions on the admissibility of appeals.
