Esmat promotes sustainability in times of health restriction due to COVID-19

On the date on which World Environment Day is celebrated (June 5th), despite the fact that the Planet is undergoing serious health restrictions due to contamination by Coronavirus (causing the disease called COVID-19), the School of Judges of  Tocantins (ESMAT) continues with its activities, events and educational lectures, this time in the Distance Learning modality.

Proactively, the Institution readily adapted to sanitary restrictions and has already held five Master’s degrees in Jurisdictional Provision and Human Rights, in partnership with the Tocantins Federal University (UFT), and held a closing ceremony and delivery of 69 Lato Sensu Graduate Program course certificates in “Rule of Law and Combating Corruption – Class II”, with a lecture by the Post-Doctor in Law at Coimbra University, Sérgio Ricardo de Souza, Law Judge at Espírito Santo Justice Court, broadcast live on Esmat’s official YouTube channel. That represents new investments in new times.

For Esmat’s academic and pedagogical advisor, Débora Galan, the adjustments were made in a timely manner and made sure that the programs and activities in progress were not interrupted. “With the availability of our activities in digital format, we observed a greater reach to the target audience of educational activities, with interactivity in real time, in addition to a great reduction in the generation of waste such as cups, papers, other disposable products, reducing the use of electricity, fuel consumption”, she has argued.

Still according to the academic advisor, there must be an understanding of the environment from a systemic view, with a view to the sustainable use of natural resources, conscious consumption and the use of technological resources, within the limits of what is permitted in educational legislation, to develop training actions in the best possible way.

For the person in charge of Esmat's Quality Management System, Vinícius Barboza, with the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil, in mid-March, Esmat, which already had technological communication tools (moodle, zoom, hangouts, meet, webexmeeting and rainbow), sought to adapt the planning of their courses to the Distance Learning Modality. “The execution of classes and seminars of the Master in Jurisdictional Assistance in Human Rights (PJDH) started to be carried out through the meet tool and transmitted on youtube with interaction via moodle (AVA). The Corporate Computing course was made available with scope for civil servers and magistrates across the State, in addition to vacancies for servers of partner agencies”, he said.

Also according to Vinícius Barboza, Esmat sought to improve its staff, taking the course of Analysis and Interpretation of the Quality Management System ISO 9001: 2015 and Strategic Planning 2015-2020, in order to prepare the team for planning and execution of courses with excellence, fullfiling the mission of the school which is “To train and improve magistrates and servers in search of good practices and the excellence of the jurisdictional assistance”, he said.
