General Director of Esmat receives Order of Renaissance Merit medal

The Judicial School of the State of Piauí (Ejud) and the State School of the Judges (Esmepi) held last Monday evening (14th), the opening of the LIV Meeting of the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of Magistracy (COPEDEM). The event goes on until tomorrow (15th), in the Plenary of the Court of Justice of the State of Piauí and gathers directors of State Schools of Magistracy from all over the country, with discussions about disruptive technological innovations and their impacts on the Justice System. During the ceremony, the General Director of Esmat, Justice Marco Villas Boas received the medal of the Order of Renaissance Merit of the State of Piauí, considered the highest commendation of the State.

In the opening speech, Justice Marco Villas Boas, president of COPEDEM and General Director of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins, emphasized the emblematic nature of discussing disruptive technologies in the State of Piauí: "Piauí is home, in the “Serra da Capivara”, to the first records of man in the Americas. These indelible marks were not lost in the past and bear witness to the world about the occupation of these lands. Discussing disruptive technologies and their impacts imposes a look at the past. It is not only about embracing new cultures and tools that will make us happy. It is, above all, to understand that everything is process, is cultural, and must be restrained. Brazil concentrates many countries in one. We also have native peoples and traditional communities that need attention. The Judiciary has a fundamental role in guaranteeing the rights not only of these communities, which still live in hidden spaces and have different degrees of contact with other peoples. Our judicial and magistrature schools have been concerned with studying to promote the human being with the guarantee of rights, with the possibility of using new technologies without running the risk of being imprisoned. In this COPEDEM, we will discuss national development, the integration of all the actors of the Justice System, in favor of the best for our community as a nation", he highlighted.

For Justice Edvaldo Moura, General Director of the School of the Judges of the State of Piauí (Esmepi) and vice-president of COPEDEM, discussing the impact of technologies in the Justice System is fundamental for the Judiciary to meet the social expectations: "Only by understanding the new technologies and their impacts we can make the Judiciary more accessible. In this Meeting, we will combine theory and practice and advance in the construction of a more human jurisdiction, according to what society needs", he declared.

Justice Sebastião Ribeiro Martins, General Director of the Judicial School of the State of Piauí (Ejud), highlighted the importance of hosting the LIV Meeting of the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of Magistracy (COPEDEM): "We gathered in this event the judicial and magistrature schools of the state courts to, together, discuss the Judiciary we have and the one we want to build. The Letter of Teresina, the final document of this Meeting, will guide the actions of the schools for the year 2023 and it will point paths to the management of the state courts, in order to advance in the judicial provision through the availability of tools that enable, in fact, a Justice for all, "he said.
