Laboratory Of Artificial Intelligence Of Esmat Publishes Abstracts For Selection Of Research Projects

The Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence (LIIARES) of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) has opened a new opportunity for researchers interested in developing technological solutions applied to the Justice System.

In partnership with the Scientific and Technological Support Foundation of the state of Tocantins (Fapto), two notices have been published this Friday (March 6th) regulating the selection of research, development and innovation projects in Artificial Intelligence aimed at the Judiciary, to Public Management and Judicial Education.

The initiative seeks to encourage proposals that contribute to the improvement of judicial services, the development of technological tools for public administration and the expansion of training methodologies mediated by digital technologies.

The goal is to bring academic research and institutional challenges closer, stimulating the creation of solutions that can improve judicial and administrative processes and strengthen digital transformation in the Judiciary.

Projects with research scholarship

In all, seven projects will be selected with the granting of research scholarships for a period of up to 12 months. The opportunities are intended for researchers linked to postgraduate programs, distributed among three vacancies for doctoral, two for master’s and two for LATO SENSU post graduate, with scholarships that can reach R$ 3,500.00 (three thousand five hundred reais) monthly, according to the academic category.

To participate in the selection process, as a research fellow, interested parties must observe the rules published in the Notice No. 011 of Fapto, 2026, made available on this link.

Voluntary projects

In addition to the scholarship positions, four projects will also be selected on a voluntary basis. In this modality, the participants will have technical-operational support from the laboratory for the development of proposals.

To participate in the selection process, as a research fellow, interested parties must observe the rules published in the Notice No. 043 of 2026, available here.

Projects should be aligned with thematic areas related to the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence, such as application of AI in judicial and administrative processes, data governance and algorithms, tools to support judicial decision-making, technology-mediated judicial education, responsible innovation and digital inclusion in the Judiciary, in addition to the social impacts and sustainable development associated with emerging technologies.

The registrations will be carried out through the Contest Management System of Esmat (SGC) from March 10th to 26th, with final results expected on April 28th. The start of development of the selected projects is scheduled for May 5th.

About LIIARES

Located on the second floor of the School, the Laboratory was inaugurated in November of 2025 and it was born with the mission to integrate magistrates, civil servers, researchers and students in the development of solutions based on Artificial Intelligence, with a focus on improving the judicial service and strengthening technological governance in the Judiciary.

As a result of the commitment of Justice Marco Villas Boas, general director of ESMAT and president of the Permanent College of Directors of State School of the Magistracy (Copedem), the Laboratory is the first of its kind institutionalized within a Judicial School in Brazil.

It is a collective construction, fruit of the partnership among Esmat, Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO), Federal University of the state of Tocantins (UFT) and University of the state of São Paulo (USP), consolidating a pioneering and strategic initiative for the development of the national Justice System. The administrative and financial management of the project is done by the Scientific and Technological Support Foundation of the state of Tocantins (Fapto).
