The Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) held, on the afternoon of Wednesday (October 22nd), the Cultural Sarau as closure of the Literary Workshops of 2025, project promoted by the Directorate of People Management of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO).
With a proposal that united literature, art and cultural identity, the sarau brought together the participants in a space of celebration of the experiences and reflections built throughout the year. In her opening speech, Janaina Costa Rodrigues, social worker, highlighted the joy of meeting participants in person who, for the most part, were only in the virtual environments of the project.
“This sarau is a time of celebration. We put the name of Cultural Sarau precisely for this, to celebrate the black culture, the indigenous culture, to celebrate the diversity of this country too. In addition to being the closing of the project on Literary Workshops, it is also a moment of connection and exchange. Much of the project is virtual. Today is the first time many of us have met in person, and it makes the moment even more special," she said.
During the event, participants shared reflections, poetry and songs that address issues such as social inequality, racism, gender and diversity. Paula Maia, director of the Directorate of People Management (Digep), highlighted the role of literature in building bonds and empathy among people.
“Words bring us together, help us to look at each other with more empathy and recognize the inequalities that cross our society. This afternoon is a space to feel, hear and recognize the value of our roots and cultural expressions," she said.
The programming also featured the presentation of the “Master Patricinho” Suça Group, coming from the Chapada da Natividade quilombola community, the first recognized urban quilombo of the state of Tocantins, certified by the Palmares Cultural Foundation in 2005. In order to keep alive the traditions of the quilombola community through music, dance and orality, the group is led and articulated by the grandchildren of the master.
The event was concluded with a thematic rhyme battle led by the guests representatives of the Rhyme Battle of the city of Palmas: MC Carlão, MC Yankin, Brabo da Cena, Zetta and MC Riba. The presentations explored themes such as identity and social justice, integrating the language of hip-hop to the literary context of the sarau.
