With the aim of broadening reflection on human rights, diversity and combating inequalities, the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) is holding the WORKSHOP on Racism in the Social and Historical Formation of Brazil from June 25th to 27th.

The event is part of the “Justice in Dialogue” project, developed by the Directorate of People Management of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (DIGEP/TJTO), focusing on topics that are sensitive to the institutional reality. The activity is aimed at judges, civil servers and trainees of the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins and it will take place in distance learning mode, through the Google Meet platform.

The initiative seeks to provide training and grounded reflections on human rights that affect the work context, with a view to the combating of prejudice, discrimination and all forms of oppression, providing opportunities to respect diversity.

Over the course of the three meetings, topics such as the Social Formation of Brazil, Structural and Institutional Racism, The Myth of Racial Democracy, and strategies for promoting racial equity in the workplace will be covered. The last module will also reflect on the Protocol for Judgments with a Racial Perspective, established by the Ordinance No. 73 of the CNJ of 2021, one of the recent milestones in the fight against racism in the Brazilian Justice system.

The activities will be led by Professor Janaina Costa Rodrigues, a social worker with a master's degree in Communication and Society and a researcher working on human rights, gender and race. The workshopis in line with the guidelines of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), which has treated tackling racism as one of the emerging and priority issues within the Judiciary.
