On Wednesday morning (November 13th), the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) held the webinar on “Processes for the Disconnection of Children and Adolescents from Institutional Foster Care”. The opening session was led by judge Adriano Gomes de Melo Oliveira, state coordinator for Children and Youth at the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins.
The lecture addressed the construction of the perspective of the doctrine of integral protection of children and adolescents, dealing with issues such as foster care and institutional disconnection, family reintegration, placement in a substitute family, transition to adulthood and the necessary elements for a successful institutional disconnection.
Valdécio Carlos da Silva Júnior, a social worker at the Court of Justice of the State of Espírito Santo and a speaker at the webinar, highlighted the importance of the event.
“Understanding the historical dimension is the starting point for any professional who sets out to care for children and adolescents in Brazil, so that we can understand the social meaning of the doctrine of integral protection,” he emphasized.
The 3-hour meeting was open to the public, with the main focus on magistrates, civil servers of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, accredited members of the Multidisciplinary Team Management Group, managers of the Institutional Foster Care Policy for children and adolescents, and technical teams linked to this policy.
