Magistrates, civil servers, students and representatives of civil society met on Thursday (August 15th) in the city of Araguaína to debate and exchange experiences on public policies in the quest to strengthen awareness-raising actions to end violence against women.
Demonstrating its commitment on protecting the rights of women, in the morning the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, through the State Coordination of Women in Situations of Domestic and Family Violence (Cevid) and the Ombudsman's Office for Women, and in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Women of the city of Araguaína, promoted the 1st Lilac August Forum.
The event was held at the District Court of Araguaína and featured a lecture by Judge Umbelina Lopes Rodrigues, head of the 2nd Criminal Court of the city of Porto Nacional, who spoke on the theme: “Lilac August: awareness and action to end violence against women”.
The programming also included a Conversation Roundtable - Maria in the Communities. Justice Angela Issa Haonat, the Ombudsman for Women of the Judiciary, took part as a debater, along with Judge Cirlene Maria de Assis Oliveira, the state coordinator for Women in Situations of Domestic and Family Violence; Magistrate Edssandra Barbosa Lourenço, coordinator of the More Woman More Democracy Program at the Regional Electoral Court (TRE/TO); the Secretary for Women of the city of Araguaína, Angela Maria Silva; the Municipal Secretary for Social Assistance, Labor and Housing, Suzana Salazar; the Delegate of Women, Ana Maria Varjal; the President of the July of the Black Collective, Telma de Sousa Santos Barbosa; and the master Psychopedagogue Lucrécia Borges Barbosa.
The event was also attended by the representative of the State Secretariat for Women, Osmarina Alves de Brito; the representative of the Brazilian Bar Association (BAR), Davi Moraes; the Public Defender Sandro Ferreira; the Director of the Integrated Operations System (Siop) and coordinator of the Shamar Operation in the State of Tocantins, Colonel Alon Amaral; and the President of the Council of Women, Rosemary Sobrinho.
Walking
In the afternoon, the 2nd Lilac August Walking was held from the Pedro Quaresma Multisport Complex to the Lake Via. The event brought together hundreds of people and also featured zumba performances by regional artists, a self-defense class, the Itinerant Police Station for Women, the Itinerant Justice Project, with legal assistance, the Red Bank Project, with a minibank painting workshop, among others.
