Judge Renata do Nascimento gives a lecture on combating racism at the José Alves de Assis high school, in the city of Paraíso do Tocantins

In a significant gesture of commitment to the fight against racism, the Judge of law Renata do Nascimento e Silva visited the José Alves de Assis High School, in the city of Paraíso do Tocantins, this Wednesday morning (May 10th). The initiative of the magistrate was enthusiastically received by the school community, which had the opportunity to participate in a lecture on combating racism.

The event was attended by Teacher Nátilia Poliana, the Director of the CEM; the Regional Director of education, Havon Bezerra; the Educational Supervisor, Marli Santana; and the Psychologist, Gabrielle Barbosa, showing the institutional support to the cause.

During the lecture, Judge Renata do Nascimento e Silva shared with the present students the historical context of blacks in Brazil and highlighted how situations from the past influence the perception of people, perpetuating prejudices rooted in society. With propriety and sensibility, the Judge stressed the importance of adopting an anti-racist stance and presented practical examples of how this can be worked out in different contexts.

"Racism is a structural problem that unfortunately persists in our society. As a magistrate, woman and black, I feel the need to use my space to disseminate knowledge. I believe that this awareness and sensitization are fundamental roles of the Judiciary, especially after the pact for racial equity signed by our Court of Justice," said Judge Renata.

Mr. Havon Bezerra, Regional Director of Education, recognized the relevance of the theme today and emphasized the importance of raising awareness to combat racism. He highlighted the role of education as the best way to promote significant changes. "We need to fight racism; to do so, awareness is necessary. We believe that the knowledge acquired today should be taken into real life and put into practice," said Bezerra.

The initiative of Judge Renata brought the school community an enriching opportunity to reflect and raise awareness about the importance of fighting racism and promoting racial equality in all areas of society. In line with the commitment of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO) with the National Pact of the Judiciary for Racial Equity, the event highlighted the relevance of this guideline, by promoting actions that corroborate with the established goals, strengthening the fight for equality and racial awareness.
