Opening of the III Seminar in celebration of the International Day of the Person with Disabilities celebrates inclusion and accessibility

The commitment of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins for inclusion and accessibility was reinforced during the opening of the III Seminar in Commemoration of the International Day of the Person with Disabilities on Thursday afternoon (1st).

Held for the third time by the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) in partnership with the Permanent Commission of Accessibility and Inclusion of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins (CPAI) and the Coordination of Management and Social Responsibility (COGERSA), The opening ceremony was attended by Justice Etelvina Maria Sampaio Felipe, General Chief Justice of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, and Justice Pedro Nelson de Miranda Coutinho, Vice President of the Court and President of the Permanent Commission for Accessibility and Inclusion (CPAI).

During her speech, Justice Etelvina emphasized the importance of the debate and reflection about policies that aim to promote inclusion. "Reflecting about the importance of living in an accessible, inclusive world stimulates new initiatives so that we can offer more and more conditions of equality to everyone we seek so much. We need, then, to give concreteness to the constitutional provision and to so many existing normative instruments, such as the Resolution no. 230 from the National Council of Justice, which was established as one of the pioneering acts in the scope of public administration, with a view to promote the precepts provided in the international convention on the rights of the people with disabilities and the law for inclusion of the people with disabilities," she said.

The General Chief Justice also congratulated the court of justice and the organizing committees for holding the event. "We believe that these actions are strengthened when people and institutions unite for a common cause (...) may this little seed be sown to bear fruit for a much fairer, egalitarian, accessible, and inclusive society that we dream of", she concluded.

In the opportunity, Justice Pedro Nelson highlighted, in an emotional speech, that the debate around equal opportunities, focused on reducing barriers and aiming at the inclusion of people with disabilities is an important step towards the guarantee of fundamental rights.

"We realize that we are on the right way, we need to train and inform in order to generate effective inclusion, this applies to people with disabilities of all diversity types, this is the way to improve access to justice and avoid new claims, the feeling of gratitude that we are managing to fulfill the purposes of this project," he said.

Closing the program of activities of the Good Practices Week of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins, three lectures were selected for the Seminar to sensitize and make the public aware of a more inclusive communication.
