Esmat And The General Internal Affairs Of Justice Begin Training On Workshops Focused On Caring For The Elderly Population

On Monday (June 23rd), the training began for the implementation of workshops on ageing, promoted by the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat), in partnership with the Citizenship Coordination Office of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (CGJUS/TJTO).

Coordinated by Judge Márcio Soares da Cunha, the course is in line with the Statute of the Elderly Person (Law No. 10,741 of 2003) and it is part of the actions coordinated by the CGJUS to implement the Judicial Policy on the Elderly Person, under the terms of the Resolution No. 520 of the CNJ of 2023.

The first meeting of the training was led by Judge Odete Batista Dias Almeida and Psychologist Luciane Rodrigues do Prado Faria, who discussed the legal and normative aspects of the judicial policy on older people, such as the Law No. 8,842 of 1994, the recommendations of the CNJ and the legal implications of the workshops in the judicial process.

Judge Odete Batista Dias Almeida emphasized the importance of implementing the workshops based on the goals of the National Council of Justice.

“It is an imposition that leads us to reflect: Should we use our knowledge, our experience and our position as public servers and magistrates to bring information to society, especially to the most vulnerable, contributing to improve the well-being and quality of life of these people?" she said.

This first web class developed an understanding of aging and its intersectionalities and it covered topics such as The Biopsychosocial Aspects of Aging, Vulnerability Factors, The Importance of the Intersectional Approach, among others. The aim of the course is to train judicial professionals to implement workshops on ageing, promoting awareness and the appropriate resolution of conflicts involving elderly people.
