Course On Theory And Practice In Criminal Procedure Concludes Successfully

Started on Thursday (September 26th), the course on Theory and Practice in Criminal Procedure has sixty registered, including magistrates and civil servers from the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins who are interested in learning about the challenges and perspectives in criminal procedure in relation to procedural systems and criminological analysis. Taught by Maurício Stegemann Dieter, PhD, Professor of Criminology and Criminal Law (USP), the 16-hour course will end at the end of the day on Friday (September 27th).

The course aims to enable participants to understand and apply, in a critical and effective manner, the principles and rules that govern the role of the criminal magistrate in the context of the Brazilian accusatory legal system, with an emphasis on the new interpretations and limitations of the powers of instruction of the Judge, with a view to a more balanced and fair judicial performance, in line with the guidelines of the modern criminal procedure.

For the Director of the District Court of Araguaçu, Keyla Suely Silva da Silva, the training plays an important role in bringing reflections on social reintegration issues to those who work in criminal law. “The Professor brings a critical approach to criminology, which makes us get out of our comfort zone and analyze what the reflection of that criminal action is on the defendant and its application, considering society as a whole. We can't just apply the law coldly, we have to know the consequences of that application,” she emphasized.
