Esmat And Digep Begin Training And Course On Awareness-Raising For The Care/Reception Of People With Disabilities And/Or Neurodivergents

More than 300 people attended the first meeting (September 24th) of the course on “Training and awareness-raising for the care/reception of people with disabilities and/or neurodivergents”, held remotely by the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) and the Directorate of People Management (Digep). The course takes place in distance learning mode and it runs until September 27th.

During the opening ceremony, Justice Pedro Nelson de Miranda Coutinho, President of the Permanent Commission for Accessibility and Inclusion (CPAI), highlighted the importance of this training.

“It is with great joy that we begin this much-needed training. Disabilities show that there are different ways of thinking, understanding and interacting with the world. A welcoming and respectful environment values each individual in their uniqueness and recognizes their particularities. Providing inclusive treatment is about being human above all else,” he said. The training was also attended by Patricia Idehara, the official responsible for accessibility and inclusion at the Court of Justice.

Stages

The activities are divided into four modules and they are designed to raise awareness of the issues and provide theoretical and practical knowledge that will enable participants to improve their skills in assisting people with disabilities and/or neurodivergents.

The first introductory module dealt with the concepts, terminologies used and in disuse, the history of the main laws defending the rights of people with disabilities, as well as the importance and benefits of inclusion in society, broadening the understanding of the participants of how to welcome, include and offer a quality reception to everyone, avoiding inappropriate behavior.

The training features the inclusive participation and testimonies of civil servers with disabilities and civil servers who have family members with disabilities, in keeping with the motto: “Nothing about us, without us”. The 6-hour course is taught by facilitator Juliana Barica Righini, a consultant, lecturer and mediator on issues related to adults with intellectual disabilities.
