Esmat Begins Continuing Education In Generative Artificial Intelligence

Professors from the University of the State of São Paulo (USP), Ana Carla Bliacheriene and Luciano Vieira de Araújo, are once again in the State of Tocantins to teach Continuing Education in Generative Artificial Intelligence (IAG). The course, which began on Monday morning (September 23rd) and ends late tomorrow afternoon (September 24th), has a workload of 16 hours.

The training aims to provide practical training in the use of IAG, enabling the participants to apply this technology effectively in judicial activities. Demonstrating the importance of the subject, the course has the participation, as a student, of the General Director of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat), Justice Marco Villas Boas.

Always attentive to the possibilities of opening up new horizons for solving problems in the judicial routine and the impact of IAGs, Justice Marco is one of the creators of the “Horus Project”, the result of a partnership among Esmat, the University of the State of São Paulo (USP) and the Taqui STARTUP, which aims to reduce the time and cost of analyzing appeals, as well as increasing the precision and uniformity of judicial decisions.

Decision of the CNJ about the use of Ai

On June 25th, the National Council of Justice (CNJ) decided to allow the use of artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, in the preparation of procedural acts by Brazilian Judges. The decision was taken unanimously, emphasizing that although the automation provided by these technologies is beneficial to the justice system, human supervision remains fundamental at all stages of the judicial process.

For this reason, the course, coordinated by Magistrate Wellington Magalhães, is crucial for clarifying to those involved the ethical and safe transition to the use of IAG in the judicial environment, promoting collaboration and ensuring that the digital transformation process takes place in a controlled and planned manner, meeting the specific needs of each office.

The fifty participants include magistrates and civil servers from the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, including professionals from the Directorate of IT of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO), the offices of the Justices, the Office of the President, the Office of the Chief Justice (CGJUS), as well as members of the State Prosecution, the State Attorney General's Office, the Public Defender's Office, lawyers appointed by the BAR and Professors from the Federal University of the State of Tocantins (UFT).

About the horus project

The training is part of the “Horus Project” which aims to train members of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins to understand and apply IAG tools and to develop, in a simulated environment, an active AI tool that supports judicial activities. The project will be carried out through courses, seminars, WORKSHOPS and other training activities offered by Esmat.
