Enfam And Cnj Launch Course On Socio-Educational System For The Judiciary

With the aim of improving the work of Judges in the field of the juvenile justice, the National School for the Training and Improvement of Judges (Enfam) and the National Council of Justice (CNJ) have opened registration for the course on Socio-educational System - guarantees, challenges and new perspectives. Registrations run until August 30th and it can be done on the website of the school.

In distance learning format, the training will have a total class load of 40 hours. The inaugural class will be held on September 5th, at 7pm, and it will last two hours. It will be taught remotely by the course coordinator, Edinaldo César dos Santos Júnior, an assistant Judge to the President of the CNJ who works at the DMF.

The programming continues with five modules of activities, including recorded lessons, exercises, reading suggestions and audiovisual materials, with content released weekly on Tuesdays, starting on September 10th. The course will be tutored by Karyna Sposato, adjunct Professor at the Law Department of the Federal University of the State of Sergipe (UFS). A closing remote class will be held on October 15th at 7pm.

The coordinator of the Department for Monitoring and Inspection of the Prison System and the System for the Execution of Socio-Educational Measures (DMF) of the CNJ, Luís Lanfredi, highlighted the cooperation between the CNJ and Enfam. “In this long and successful partnership, we have been able to guarantee what is fundamental for a more efficient performance of our judiciary: the continued training and qualification of Judges from all over Brazil, perfecting knowledge and skills that already exist in day-to-day practice. This is what makes our judiciary ever stronger and more committed to excellence.”

The course content is based on national and international normative frameworks on juvenile justice, with rules and guidelines applicable to the Brazilian socio-educational system. “There is a significant gap in training spaces on the socio-educational system in Brazil, and this course is an essential response to fill that need. It is crucial that magistrates have a thorough understanding of the specificities of the system, especially when it comes to the absolute priority we must give to adolescents and young people in situations of vulnerability. Continuous improvement is essential to ensure that our decisions promote justice and effectiveness in meeting the needs of this population,” says the course coordinator, Edinaldo César Santos Junior.

The training will also present contemporary issues and challenges, such as understanding the role of the Rights Guarantee System (SGD) in supporting integrated care for adolescents and young people, issues of gender, race and ethnicity, qualification of inspections of socio-educational units and programs, and actions to prevent torture.

The training is part of the activities of the Doing Justice program, coordinated by the CNJ in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and various partners, such as Enfam. The content of the classes will include tools and strategies created or disseminated by Doing Justice, such as Vacancy Centers, Initial Assistance Centers and Concentrated Hearings.

The training on the socio-educational system joins two other courses in the partnership between Enfam and the CNJ based on the publications of the Doing Justice program: the specialization Contemporary Criminal Jurisdiction and the Prison System, which has already had two classes, and the training Protocols for the Judiciary to implement public policies in prisons, which has already been offered in four editions.
