Brazilian sign language course (libras) level II - class I - classes have started

The classes of the first class of the Brazilian Sign Language course (LIBRAS) Level II, started on Tuesday (23th), in distance learning modality. Held by the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT), the training has a course load of 60 hours and extends until May 10th this year.

The course is intended for magistrates, male and female employees, trainees, and collaborators of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, and aims to train students on the use of Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), developing communication skills for deaf jurisdictionals, providing the participants with discussions on the specifities of sign languages, reflections on the deaf difference in order to reduce social exclusion, discriminations and misinformation caused by the cultural language barrier. 

 

About the facilitators

Heloísa Silva de Araújo Cunha

Server of the Federal University of the State of Tocantins. Accredited in the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins as a translator-interpreter of Libras. Graduated in Languages: Libras – UFT. Holds Prolibras – National Examination for Certification in Proficiency in Translation and Interpretation of Libras / Portuguese Language / Libras, 2007; and Prolibras – National Examination for Certification in Proficiency in Teaching Libras, 2015. She taught training courses in Libras for servers of the Procon of the State of Tocantins, in 2015, IFTO 2015, UFT 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2020.

Renata Laize Pais Brito Mendes

Graduated in Social Work at the University of Amazonia, 2010. She is currently a translator and interpreter of Libras at the Federal University of the State of Tocantins and a teacher at the Educational Center of Brazilian Sign Language.
