Sustainable TO Network: TJTO And Partners Are Doing Ecocitizenship For Waste Pickers Of Recyclable Materials This Saturday (March 7th)

The Sustainable TO Network holds, this Saturday (March 7th), from 8 am, the I Ecocitizenship - Rights and Dignity for Waste Pickers of Recyclable Materials -, in the campus of the Federal Institute of the state of Tocantins, in the city of Palmas. Coordinated by the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO) and with the participation of partner institutions, the action will offer services of citizenship, health, legal and electoral guidance, as well as the reception of the participants.

The initiative is part of the commemorations of the World Day of Waste Pickers, celebrated on March 1st, and it aims to value these professionals, recognizing their essential contribution to environmental preservation and social development.

Services

Electoral services will be offered, such as enlistment, review and transfer, being necessary to present official document with photo and proof of address. There will also be tributes with the delivery of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits, basic baskets and liquid soap.

Among the health care services will be: blood pressure measurement, blood glucose check, oral health guidelines with distribution of KITS, update of the booklet of the adult, rapid tests for ISTs, in addition to the delivery of HIV self-tests, condoms and lubricating gels.

Representatives of four recycling entities from the city of Palmas are taking part in the action: Association of Waste Pickers and Waste Pickers of the Northern Region of the city of Palmas (Ascampa), Association of Collectors of Solid Recyclable Materials from the city of Palmas (Ascamares), Association of Waste Pickers (ACMR) and Cooperative of Recyclables Production of the state of Tocantins (Cooperan).

Solidary Hanger

Another highlight of the programming is the Solidary Hanger of the TJTO, a space prepared with clothing pieces and shoes made available for waste pickers to choose freely, in a gesture of care and respect for the dignity of each participant.

Sustainable TO Network 

The Sustainable TO Network, formalized through the Technical Cooperation Term 10 of 2024, brings together Justice System bodies, public institutions, universities and partner entities with the aim of promoting technical cooperation, exchange of experiences and implementation of joint actions aimed at sustainability.

In addition to the TJTO, the action includes the State Prosecution (MPTO), the Public Defender’s Office (DPETO), the Federal Institute of the state of Tocantins (IFTO), the City Hall of Palmas, the Federal University of the state of Tocantins (UFT), the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (Embrapa), the Court of Accounts of the State of Tocantins (TCE-TO), the Regional Electoral Court of the state of Tocantins (TRE-TO), the Energy Distributor S.A of the state of Tocantins (Energisa), the State Government of Tocantins, the State University of Tocantins (Unitins), the Social Service of Commerce (Sesc), the National Industrial Learning Service (Senai) and the Federations of Industry and Commerce of the state of Tocantins (Fieto and Fiesc).
