
On Monday (February 3rd), the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO) held the opening of the Judicial Year and the tenure of the new Board of Directors for the 2025-2027 biennium. During the event, judges were awarded the Order of Merit Justice Theotônio Segurado, in the Grand Cross degree, the highest honor granted by the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins.
The honour, established by the Resolution No. 11 of 2003 of the TJTO and updated by the Resolution No. 36 of 2023, recognizes personalities who have rendered relevant services to the judiciary and to the society of the state of Tocantins. The medal carries the name of Joaquim Theotônio Segurado, a key historical figure in the creation of the state of Tocantins, symbolizing the commitment of magistrates to the provision of justice and the promotion of fundamental rights.
The awarding of the medals was conducted by Justices Marco Villas Boas and Jacqueline Adorno, who stressed the importance of recognizing the honorees.
"The Order of Merit Justice Theotônio Segurado was created with the purpose of preserving our historical roots and commitment to justice that gave rise to the state of Tocantins," said Villas Boas.
In his speech, the general director of ESMAT also recalled the historical challenges faced in the claim of the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins, emphasizing the relevance of the distinction. "This tribute not only confirms individual merit, but also symbolizes the collective effort in building an increasingly efficient and accessible judiciary, committed to social pacification and the guarantee of fundamental rights," he said.

The ceremony, held in the Plenary of the TJTO, was attended by several authorities from the Executive and Legislative Powers, as well as representatives of the State Prosecution Office, the Public Defender’s Office, the Brazilian Bar Association (BAR-TO) and other organs of the justice system. The event was broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the TJTO.
