Esmat And Enfam Discuss Joint Activities Aimed At Training Brazilian Magistrates In Generative Artificial Intelligence

Fulfilling an institutional agenda in the city of Brasília (DF), Justice Marco Villas Boas, General Director of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) and President of the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of the Magistracy (Copedem), was received on Thursday (September 26th) by Justice Benedito Gonçalves, the new General Director of the National School for the Training and Improvement of Magistrates (Enfam), who took office on September 4th. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the agenda of activities and explore possibilities for joint actions between the institutions.

On the occasion, the Minister was presented with the Horus project, developed by Esmat in partnership with the University of the State of São Paulo (USP) and the Taqui-aí STARTUP, which aims to automate the procedural analysis of less complex cases and repetitive actions, with the aim of reducing time and costs, as well as increasing the accuracy and uniformity of court decisions. Using generative artificial intelligence, the project processes large volumes of information, including text, PDF and audio documents, generating accurate reports and drafts with bias control.

During the meeting, Justice Villas Boas congratulated Justice Benedito Gonçalves on his inauguration and highlighted the importance of collaboration between the schools of the Judges for the continuous improvement of the Brazilian judiciary. “The union of efforts between Copedem and Enfam enhances the quality of the training of magistrates, the updating of knowledge in the light of current innovation needs and, consequently, the provision of justice,” he said.

Justice Benedito Gonçalves was enthusiastic about the proposed partnership. With a well-established career that includes stints at the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region (TRF2) and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), where he acted as Deputy General of Electoral Justice, Benedito stressed the importance of initiatives that promote efficiency and integrity in the judicial system.
