The regulation of the use of Artificial Intelligence in the Judiciary will have the contribution of 35 experts and representatives of institutions. Starting this Wednesday (September 25th), they will take part in the Public Hearing - Artificial Intelligence in the Judiciary. The event, which continues until Friday (September 27th), will be opened by the President of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, and coordinated by the President of the Commission on Information Technology and Innovation, Councillor Bandeira de Mello.
During the opening session, the research Using Generative Artificial Intelligence in the Brazilian Justice will be launched, with the participation of Gabriela Moreira de Azevedo, Director of the Judicial Research Department (DPJ/CNJ). In the morning, the three days of the hearing are organized with the presentation of panels. In the afternoon, the experts selected to take part in the event will present their contributions.
On Wednesday, Governance, Transparency and Regulation of AI Solutions in the Judiciary and Use of AI in Judicial Decision-Making will be the subjects of the panel discussions. The theme of the first panel will be addressed by seven experts, including André Carlos Ponce, a Professor at the University of the State of São Paulo (USP), and Lawyers and researchers Dierle José Coelho Nunes, Izabella Alves Jorge Bittencourt, João Araujo Monteiro Neto, Juliana Justo Botelho Castello, Paulo Campanha Santana and Renata Braga Klevenhusen. The theme of the second panel will be developed by Lawyers and researchers Ana Carla Bliacheriene, Berto Igor Caballero Cuellar and Fernando Rodrigues Peres, as well as the Justice of the Court of Justice of the State of Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ), Claudio Dell Orto.
The second day of the public hearing will count on the participation of 13 experts divided into two tables. The theme of the first panel will be Data Protection, Privacy and Security in the Use of AI. The several aspects of this subject will be presented by Lawyers and researchers Gustavo Rabay, Larissa Matos, Manuela Menezes Silva, Márcio Henrique d'Ávila, Mauro Guilherme Messias dos Santos, Melissa Cipriano Vanini Tupinambá and Walter Aranha Capanema.
Practical Applications and AI Development in the Judiciary is the name of the second panel of the afternoon. The topic will be addressed by Engineer Dan Lopes Carvalho, Judge Daniel Carvalho Martins of the Regional Labor Court, Information Technology specialist Daniel Haab and Lawyers and researchers Elaine Cristine Zordan Keller, João Ataíde da Cunha and Viviane Ramone Tavares.

On the third day of the public hearing, there will be presentations by 11 experts. The first panel, Ethical Challenges and Fundamental Rights in the Use of AI in the Judiciary, will feature presentations by Lawyers and researchers Jamile Sabbad Carecho Cavalcante, Samara Castro, Sílvia Piva and Paula Guedes Fernandes da Silva, the General Attorney of the State of Alagoas, Luís Manoel Borges do Vale, retired Judge Sebastião Tavares Pereira and Sociologist and researcher Sérgio Amadeu da Silveira.
The last panel of the event will deal with Generative AI and its Impact on the Judiciary. Aspects of this topic will be presented by Lawyer and researcher Cynthia Picolo, Engineer Marcelo da Costa Rebouças, Lawyer and researcher Marcelo Fonseca Santos and Neuroscientist Regina Lúcia Nogueira.
The contributions of the experts will be used to prepare the draft that should update the Resolution 332 of the CNJ of 2020. This normative act provides for ethics, transparency and governance in the production and use of AI in Brazilian justice institutions. The debates will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the CNJ.
