Article Published On The Legal Consultor Website Praises The Role Of Esmat In Research Into Artificial Intelligence In The Brazilian Judiciary

Originally published on the Legal Consultor website, the article by Douglas Alencar Rodrigues, Catarina de Macedo Buzzi and Rodrigo Garcia Rodrigues Buzzi reinforced the initiative of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) in partnership with the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of the Magistracy (Copedem), which held events at MICROSOFT and GOOGLE in New York this month.

Members of several courts in Brazil attended seminars given by Directors, researchers and developers of different products that seek to replicate the way the human brain works for practical application in various tasks. The main focus was to explain how these tools work, what their origins are and the long path of scientific discovery that has been traveled so far, and to project how this ongoing technological development might unfold.

Horus project

Another interesting Brazilian initiative presented at the seminar was the “Horus Project”, developed by Esmat/TJTO, the SmartCitiesBr Research Group at the University of the State of São Paulo (USP), and other collaborators. The aim is to develop an active generative AI to deal with high volumes of processes, which is understandable and educational, and which can offer safe answers.  Experimentation with these tools is in full swing in Brazil.
